Young LGS memeber Niall Kavanagh will be performing at an event at the Casa Bar on Hope Street, Liverpool on Friday 26th July 2013. The evening features a number of musicians including Felix Bellingham and Gary Potter. Tickets are £7 and the event starts at 8pm. Niall will be playing a 25 minute solo classical guitar set.
Young Hoylake-based composer and singer-songwriter Rachel Nicholas will be presenting ‘Mersey Sound’, an exciting evening of music at St.Luke’s Church, Hoylake, on Saturday July 13 2013 7:30pm. Along with a talented ensemble of composer-performers, she will be joined for the event by Howard Skempton, who has been a leading light in British experimental music since the late 1960s, and whose appearance at Festival of Firsts is a real scoop for the event.
The concert will feature the premiere of Rachel’s own Merseyside-inspired soundscape for live ensemble and recorded sounds, using sounds of the region including the river, voices, transport, and music. This will be preceded by short works by local emerging composers Daniel Thorne, Mark Jones, William Marshall, Richard Harding and Joe Hillyard, alongside pieces by Howard Skempton, which will be played not only by the ensemble, but also by the man himself.
Richard Harding, our own Musical Director, will also be performing as part of this event. Tickets £5 (£4).
As well as championing the homegrown talent the region has to offer, Rachel hopes this exciting programme will be accessible to all, and bring contemporary music to new audiences who may not have encountered it before. For further details about Rachel’s work see www.rachelnicholas.com
