Valérie Hartzell Masterclass and Concert – 4th March 2017

Prize winning guitarist Valérie Hartzell will hold a  master class for the Liverpool Guitar Society before performing a concert in the evening.

The master class will be held from 1 to 3 pm in the Cornerstone Building on the Creative Campus of Hope University (opposite the Capstone Theatre – map here).
The concert will take place at 8 pm in the View Two Gallery (23 Matthew Street Liverpool, L2 6RE). The repertoire will include music by English composers Mark Houghton & Chris Dumigan, American composer Olga Amelkina-Vera, classics by Barrios, Bach, Merlin, Albeniz, Tarrega, Dyens and popular music by The Beatles and Harnell.

Valérie Hartzell began her classical guitar studies on a half-size Ramirez at the age of three. At the age of six, she studied with maestro Alexandre Lagoya at the Académie Internationale d’Eté in Nice, France.
Valérie Hartzell has a Bachelor’s from Peabody Conservatory where she studied with Manuel Barrueco on scholarship and a Master’s Degree from Radford University in Virginia where she was awarded a Graduate Teaching Fellowship.
She has performed in over 30 festivals.  She is a prizewinner in 8 international competitions including 1st prizes at the 10th International Guitar Competition “Simone Salmaso” in Italy and at the Concours de Guitare Classique Heitor Villa-Lobos in France.
She has two recordings; Ex Tenebris Lux, a solo project and Presti, an ensemble project, which were both recorded at the National Public Radio studios in Houston.
She is  the Musical Director of the Cambridge Guitar Orchestra, UK and the Artistic Director of the annual International ‘Classical Minds’ Guitar Festival and Competition held in Houston, Texas.

Our next meeting will feature Spanish guitarist Rafael Serrallet who will hold a small master class for Society members before performing a concert for us.

We’ll be using our normal normal meeting room at the Bluecoat as a venue.

Hailing from Valencia, Rafael studied with Andres Segovia’s pupil and assistant, Jose Tomas; he also attended the Spanish Academy in Rome; and received a doctorate in music (PhD) by the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia, and a Master of Education by the UNED.

This concert will be for Society members and by invitation, so other local guitar societies and friends are welcome to attend. The concert is free. Please contact us if you are wishing to attend and how many guests you might wish to bring so we can sort seating out in advance.
