The Ten Strings Duo

Violinist Marianatalia Ruscica and guitarist Davide Sciacca began their collaboration in 2012. Their intensive work together has led to an extended repertoire of classical works from the early 19th Century including Niccolò Paganini, Mauro Giuliani, Napoleon Coste and Francesco Molino as well as more contemporary pieces by composers such as Astor Piazolla, Maximo Diego Pujol, Celso Machado, Laurent Boutros, Giuseppe Torrisi and Andrea Schiavo.

Marianatalia and Davide won the 1st Prize at the international Giuseppe Ierna competition, and also at the national competitions AMA Calabria, the Citta di Palermo, Alfio Pulvirenti and Magna Grecia.

Last year they performed in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth the Second, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales Charles and the other members of the Royal Family.

Marianatalia and Davide currently teach Violin and Guitar at the Conservatoiri in Caltanissetta,and in High Schools in Sicily.

Since 2014 they are regularly coming to the UK, playing at prestigious venues and appearing in Linda McDermott’s late night show on BBC Radio Merseyside.

Their concerts are always warmly received by audiences and critics alike.

We are looking forward to having them back this summer in the UK, including several duo and guitar solo recitals in and around Merseyside:

Valérie Hartzell Masterclass and Concert – 4th March 2017

Prize winning guitarist Valérie Hartzell will hold a  master class for the Liverpool Guitar Society before performing a concert in the evening.

The master class will be held from 1 to 3 pm in the Cornerstone Building on the Creative Campus of Hope University (opposite the Capstone Theatre – map here).
The concert will take place at 8 pm in the View Two Gallery (23 Matthew Street Liverpool, L2 6RE). The repertoire will include music by English composers Mark Houghton & Chris Dumigan, American composer Olga Amelkina-Vera, classics by Barrios, Bach, Merlin, Albeniz, Tarrega, Dyens and popular music by The Beatles and Harnell.

Valérie Hartzell began her classical guitar studies on a half-size Ramirez at the age of three. At the age of six, she studied with maestro Alexandre Lagoya at the Académie Internationale d’Eté in Nice, France.
Valérie Hartzell has a Bachelor’s from Peabody Conservatory where she studied with Manuel Barrueco on scholarship and a Master’s Degree from Radford University in Virginia where she was awarded a Graduate Teaching Fellowship.
She has performed in over 30 festivals.  She is a prizewinner in 8 international competitions including 1st prizes at the 10th International Guitar Competition “Simone Salmaso” in Italy and at the Concours de Guitare Classique Heitor Villa-Lobos in France.
She has two recordings; Ex Tenebris Lux, a solo project and Presti, an ensemble project, which were both recorded at the National Public Radio studios in Houston.
She is  the Musical Director of the Cambridge Guitar Orchestra, UK and the Artistic Director of the annual International ‘Classical Minds’ Guitar Festival and Competition held in Houston, Texas.
