Following the AGM in January this year, we are going back (for those who remember) to have two different meeting formats:
Players who are interested in either format can only join one of the evenings per month; but we encourage everyone to take place in both.
We especially aim at a more focused ensemble practice with assigned parts for each player and with the view to work towards a performance. Ensemble pieces are guitar quartets and arrangements for guitar quartets. We currently have at least two guitars per part and hope to grow the ensemble further.
Playing with other musicians is a rare opportunity for classical guitarists the Liverpool Guitar Ensemble provides an opportunity for gaining such an experience. We are working on several pieces as an ensemble together under the guidance of our musical director. The aims include: playing in time collectively; playing dynamics together; approaching complex rhythms in unison, playing counterpoint parts and working together towards an ensemble performance. Players are assigned specific parts which they are expected practice and work on for the ensemble. These will cater for all grades.

Our Patrons the Katona Twins will be playing at the Capstone Theatre as part of the Cornerstone Festival on Sunday 4th March 2018 at 7:30 pm. Their unusual style combines classical, flamenco and finger picking techniques with the energetic stage presence of lead guitarists. The wide repertoire of the duo spans from Bach to Piazzolla’s tango music and from pop, rock and jazz standards to their own compositions. They have travelled throughout the world enthusing audiences in New York, London, Tokyo, Moscow, Beijing, Vienna, Hong Kong and in 2009 they performed live to half a million people in arenas across Europe. Their tenth CD is due to be released in the Spring of 2018.
